Historical DAC Placed Markers in Saline County

The NSDAC historical marker program commemorates an event, place, or person of historic interest. There are three DAC Historical Markers in Saline County.

Union Baptist Church

Marker Placed August 27, 1960

    Union Baptist Church was organized Saturday, August 18, 1850 in the Kiser school house between Malta Bend and Marshall.  T

    The church remains an active congregation.

Bethel Baptist Church

Marker Placed November 3, 1963

    Bethel Baptist Church was organized August 21, 1846 in Sharon, Mo on land given by Rueben E. McDaniel.  The adjoining cemetery was established February 22, 1871 . The church closed October 1, 1993.  The building is gone.  However, the Bethel Church Cemetery Association continues to operate and maintain the cemetery.

Mt. Carmel Methodist Church

Marker Placed March 1961

    The Mount Carmel Methodist Church was founded 1850.  The cornerstone of the church, was laid January 1, 1893. The church building stood on the grounds until May 2012 when it was destroyed by fire as the result of a lightning strike.  The cemetery adjacent to the previous church site is maintained by a cemetery association.

Pioneer Woman Tribute

Marker Placed October 2010

    The Missouri State Society recognized the spirit of pioneer women by planting an oak tree and placing a plaque at the Witcher Family Cemetery.

    The plaque and oak tree honor specifically Dorothy Dangerfield Witcher who came to Saline County with her husband and his family in 1833.
